Tight Availability in the Resin Market
Due to extremely tight availability of resin, the major resin companies have implemented
price increases that have increased production costs of polyethylene and polypropylene
products. In the United States resin production utilizes natural gas instead of oil, but
with the global impact of higher crude prices, natural gas prices have been impacted as well.
Raw Material Price Increases in Resin-Based Yarn Products
All major polyester cord manufacturers have announced price increases driven by raw material
price increases in resin-based yarn products, resulting in price increases in Polyester and
Polypropylene Strapping. In addition, a worldwide shortage of cotton has driven up the demand
for synthetic yarn, resulting in Cord Strapping price increases. (02/04/2011)
Rising Feedstock and Energy Costs Drive Up Stretch Film and Strapping Prices
High feedstock and energy costs, strong demand, and tight supply have led to instability in
the resin market resulting in price increases in stretch films and polyester and polyethylene
strapping products. We encourage our customers to order resin products as early as possible

Power Interruption at Dow Chemical Company Suspends Polyethylene Production
On January 3, 2011, the Dow Chemical Company experienced a loss of power at its Hahnville,
Louisiana manufacturing site, causing a suspension in polyethylene production. While production
is expected to resume in late January or early February, the company does not expect to
return to normal shipping volumes until at least March 1st.
